OBEYING THE VOICE OF GOD – (PART TWO).
The Holy Scriptures states that Satan was thrown out of Heaven (Revelation 12:8-9). However, this was not the end of his disobedience, his rebellion, his defiance and his hatred for the laws of God. The Prophet John wrote, “And I heard a Loud Voice saying in Heaven, now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God and the power of his Christ (Revelation 12:10). Therefore rejoice ye Heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the Earth and of the Sea! For the Devil is come down unto you. Having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time” (Revelation 12:12). While the Heavens are rejoicing the expulsion of Satan, the Earth is having misery, trouble, grief and calamity (WOE). The longer Satan is on the Earth, the greater will be his evil against its inhabitants; because he is aware of the little time he has left. Why are we in perpetual shock because of the problems that so easily besets us on this earth? Knowing now, who Lucifer was and the manner in which he was thrown out of Heaven, let us seek the knowledge to resist him.
According to the Holy Scriptures, “In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth (Genesis 1:1). In the book of Genesis chapter one, the phrase “GOD SAID” (Genesis 1: 3-31) is used repeatedly. This phrase (‘GOD SAID”) denotes that the Creator was the GOD who spoke with a voice (using words). During the six (6) days of Creation, all the commands of God were obeyed. At that time everything obeyed the voice of God, living and non-living. On the sixth day of Creation, God (the only God that ever creates anything, living or nonliving) spoke, saying, “let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth” (Genesis 1:26). At that time God spoke, stating his intention (to make living beings, having his image and his likeness- Man). The Lord also stated his purpose; which is to let man have dominion over the things of the earth. “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul” (Genesis 2:7). “So God created man in his (Gods’) own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them” (genesis 1:27). The intent of God is achieved; man is created.
The CREATOR sets his purpose into motion; “And God blessed them (Man), and God said unto them be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth” (Genesis 1:28). “ And God said, behold I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat” (Genesis 1:29). “And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed” (Genesis 2:8), to dress it and to keep it (Genesis 2:15). According to the Holy Scriptures, God created man: gave him (the Earth) dominion over the things of the earth; planted for him a garden (Eden) with an abundance of food. The man is only given the task of dressing and keeping the garden.
“And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good, and the evening and the morning was the sixth day” (Genesis 1:31). The creation of this heaven and earth that is mentioned in Genesis chapter one is not the Creators’ first major undertaking. Before that, he created the higher Heavens where he lives and he also created the host of Angels. The prophet Ezekiel speaking from the mouth of God concerning Lucifer, said, “Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee” (Ezekiel 28:15). Everything that was created by God was very good and perfect, even Lucifer, until wickedness was found in him. The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden,” And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, THOU SHALT NOT EAT OF IT: for in the day that thou eatest thereof THOU SHALT SURELY DIE” (Genesis 2:16-17). God, as the Creator expects and deserves total obedience from all his creation. Adam was to obey the voice of God only. It was the VOICE OF GOD THAT CREATED ALL THINGS. Since the beginning (Genesis 1:1), as recorded in the Holy Scriptures, all things obeyed the voice of God.
The Lord looked and saw that something was missing, then the Lord said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him” (Genesis 2:18). It is important to note that God gave the command to Adam, “THOU SHALT NOT EAT OF IT” (Genesis 2:16-17), before he gave him a wife. Because the Lord is perfect, everything he does is good. He gave the man the best of everything, he warned him, giving him the command, “BUT OF THE TREE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL, THOU SHALT NOT EAT OF IT: FOR IN THE DAY THAT THOU EATEST THEREOF THOU SHALT SURELY DIE” (Genesis 2:17). The command of God given to Adam was very good, and then Evil shows up. Remember that old Devil called Satan. The one, who practiced and taught rebellion in Heaven and was thrown down to the Earth, who did not get control of God’s government in Heaven then; now he sets his sight on the earth.
God gave Adam dominion over the things of the earth and went back to Heaven. Satan continued his war against God by targeting his Government on earth (man). He went and recruited a serpent which he used as his medium and disguise. As it is written in the Holy Scriptures “Now the serpent was more subtile than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made” (Genesis 3;1). It is obvious that Satan seek out the Serpent, because of this exceptional quality; been more subtile than all other beast. Choosing the Serpent was very easy for him since he must conceal his true identity and his true purposes, to charm and to deceive. This is what he did through the Serpent; therefore Eve became conversational and sympathetic to his deceits. Then Satan said unto the woman, “Yea, hath God said, ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden” (Genesis 3:1). The woman was fascinated, in seeing the Serpent on the forbidden tree. By hearing the voice, she is deceived into believing that the Serpent also had the sense of speech. She did not know that Satan was using the Serpent as a medium. To make a bad situation worse for Eve, Satan spoke through the Serpent, saying, “Yea, hath God said”, which gave her the impression that he can divine. The woman answered, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden. But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die” (Genesis 3:2-3). Eve did not state the truth concerning the command that God gave to Adam. God did not command Adam not to touch the tree. Satan knew that God did not tell Adam not to touch the tree. This mistake gave Satan the ease for one of his greatest deceits of all time. “The Serpent said, unto the woman, YE SHALL NOT SURELY DIE” (Genesis 3:4). She would not die for touching the tree because God did not say so: this was not part of the command of God: therefore, it was not true. Her untruth statement placed herself in Satan’s territory, the land of half-truths (lies) and of the lack of knowledge.
Later on we shall see, as it is written in the Holy Scriptures; starting at Moses in the book of Deuteronomy and continuing through to the prophet John in the book of Revelation; man is warned not to add to or diminish from the words of God. Let us look at a few of these warnings. Moses speaking to the children of Israel pertaining to the commandments of God, said, “Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish aught from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you” (Deuteronomy 4:2). “What things so ever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it” (Deuteronomy 12:32). In the book of proverbs it is written, “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield to them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a LIAR” (Proverbs 30:5-6). The Prophet John wrote, “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the PROPHECY of this book, if any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this PROPHECY, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the Holy city, and from the things which are written in this book” (Revelation 22:18-19). Through these verses, we see that Eve was about to be pushed into the hole which she dug.
Satan detected the untruth side of Eve statement (because he is the originator of lies), for this reason he kept piling on deceits upon deceits, saying, “For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, your eyes shall be opened and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil” (Genesis 3:5). Eve is further deceived by Satan’s power of suggestion; that even God himself knows that in the day she eats, her eyes will be opened like that of gods, knowing good and evil. So when she “saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and DID EAT, and gave also to her husband with her; AND HE DID EAT” (Genesis 3:6). By suggestion, Satan also deceived Eve into thinking that she could get the wisdom of God by eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
As we continue with our study, on “OBEYING THE VOICE OF GOD” it will become more evident that everything from hereon (Genesis 3:6) is for the purpose of correction. As it is written in the Holy Scriptures, Moses spoke to the children of Israel, saying, “And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers; THAT HE MIGHT MAKE THEE KNOW THAT MAN DOTH NOT LIVE BY BREAD ONLY, BUT BY EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDETH OUT OF THE MOUTH OF THE LORD DOTH MAN LIVE” (Deuteronomy 8:3).
During the time of Satan greatest battle on earth; the temptation of Jesus Christ, As it is written, “And when the tempter (Satan) came to him, he said, if thou be the son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he (Jesus) answered and said, it is written, MAN SHALL NOT LIVE BY BREAD ALONE, BUT BY EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDETH OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD” (Matthew 4:3-4). From these verses, man is warned against choosing food over the word of God. The word of God can bring forth all things including food but food will only give a onetime filling and a craving for more food. The Prophet Amos said, “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord” (Amos 8:11). When the wrath of Satan comes against man his only defense will be the word of God. When the judgment of God is about to come upon man, for disobeying his word, his only help will be in the word of God. Eve DISOBEYED THE COMMAND OF GOD by eating of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, therefore she is condemned according to the Holy Scriptures: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is everlasting life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). The penalty is death. That was plainly stated, “THOU SHALT NOT EAT OF IT: FOR IN THE DAY THAT THOU EATEST THEREOF THOU SHALT SURELY DIE” (Genesis 3:17). The law of God condemns but it does not pardon (Romans 8:3). It was God’s laws that condemn Satan and his followers in Heaven.
This was the reason why they were thrown out of Heaven. Satan used the Serpent as a disguise and deceived Eve. Then he used Eve to tempt Adam causing him to sin also. The woes pronounced are fulfilled. In eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they rejected the knowledge that was given to them; knowledge that is given in the Holy Scriptures, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee” (Hosea 4:6).
